PortConMaine is a mostly PG-13 event, with events of anime and gaming that are, in nature, appropriate for teens to adults, with suggested parental attendance for those of younger nature. To that end, any child that is 12 years or younger must have an adult in attendance with them. Children must be 13 or older to attend by themselves.
PortConMaine does host adult oriented events for attendees 18+ or older. These events require attendees to provide valid photo ID for admission due to language and content. No minors will be admitted to the events. At no point during the convention will all events be 18+ so there will always be alternative programming for the younger community. 18+ events will be clearly marked on the schedule as such.
PortConMaine claims no responsibility for those minors in attendance, and will not act as ‘surrogate parent’ for the weekend. Staff will monitor the convention for safety, but we can not guarantee to watch specific persons the whole time. This means that if you are under 13 at any point during the convention should staff ask you for your guardian/adult, you must find that adult within 15 minutes, or you will be asked to leave. We will not allow children 12 and under into the convention without the above mentioned: an accompanying adult. Please keep in mind your child’s maturity, your values and levels of tolerance, and your choices when allowing your son(s) and/or daughter(s) to attend our event.
Events at the convention, ranging from anime showings to roleplaying games, will be ‘family friendly,’ with the more edgy events offered after dark for family purposes.
No adult material will be shown in any of our viewing rooms. All events will end by midnight. All events will begin no sooner than 9 AM. No food will be provided to attendees.
Drugs, alchohol, and nudity are prohibited from the convention areas, and security staff will be in attendance at all times. Shirts and shoes are required for convention attendance and no real weaponry (or ‘live steel’) will be allowed in the convention areas. (See cosplay rules for information regarding costumes)
No animals other then service animals defined by ADA and/or by Maine State law (17 M.R.S.A. § 1312, 5 M.R.S.A § 4553, subsection 9-E, paragraph B.) are allowed in the convention space during convention hours. A service animal should not be incorporated into any cosplay.
Upon receipt of your badge(s) at the door there will be a sign in with the following requirements for attendance: you are responsible for your self and stuff, keep all your belongings within your personal possession, play nice with others and respect their personal possessions and self, and all state wide rules and regulations hold for the convention (theft will not be tolerated).
You must have your badge on you at all times. Lost or stolen badges will not be replaced. There will be no convention refunds made of badges purchased during the event.
At any point during the convention security or convention staff have the right to revoke membership as needed. Reason may or may not be given, but behavior does play a factor in your attendance to the convention. Remember: play nice and no fighting or malicious behavior will be tolerated.
PortConMaine is a family friendly environment, which should be safe and appropriate for all ages. In light of this, we ask that all attendees make sure to dress appropriately at all times. We reserve the right to ask people to modify or change outfits at any time if we deem them to be inappropriate. (With special thanks to Vancouver’s Cos & Effect)
PortConMaine is a convention for geeks of all ages, sizes, shapes, colors, fandoms, genders, and orientations. Everyone is welcome to come and have a good time. In order to keep this a safe and welcoming space for everyone, please treat your fellow congoers with respect and decency.
PortConMaine is a place of tolerance for all people, including people with LGBTQIAQ identification. Whereas hotel policy does not permit PortConMaine or its affiliates to re-label bathrooms as gender neutral, attendees should be aware that Maine state law permits any individual to use the bathroom of their individual gender identity.
Harassment and/or discrimination will not be tolerated. Be sure to ask before engaging with fellow attendees, even if all you want is a photo. Take no for an answer. Remember, if you see something, say something: if you or another attendee feels unsafe or uncomfortable in any way, please notify a staff member immediately.
