Cosplay Masquerade Information

PortConMaine has a friendly and active cosplay community, all of whom are invited to participate in our Cosplay competitions! We run a cosplay masquerade during the afternoon on Saturday, as well as a Craftsmanship competition that has judging times throughout Saturday morning.

PortConMaine is a family friendly event and our cosplay competitions are rated PG-13. An adult must attend anyone below the age of 18. We ask that you keep this in mind while designing and building your costumes. Please ensure that your costume is not offensive and that none of your naughty bits are showing or discernable. The South Portland city ordinances outline that “naughty bits” include the buttocks, nipples as well as genitalia. We reserve the right to ask attendees to modify or change outfits at any time if we deem them to be inappropriate. If you are uncertain about a cosplay, please contact us at pcmcosplaygames@gmail.com

Cosplay Guidelines:

  1. Cosplay should cover any body parts that aren’t appropriate to be displayed.
  2. Crop tops/ Bikini tops, shorts are appropriate.
  3. Absolutely no bare feet are allowed. Shoes (including flip flops) are to be worn at all times during con. No exceptions.
  4. Weapons must be visibly fake (orange tip) and checked in when first wearing costume on convention floor. If weapon is not checked in, PortCon staff has the right to ask for the prop to be either checked in or put away.
  5. Any confusion or concerns, please reach out to the convention at portconcosplay@gmail.com
  6. Any worn body paint must be sealed. No exceptions.

Craftsmanship Guidelines:

  1. To be considered for entry, the character must exist in either Anime, TV, books/Novels, any form of media (Movie and or video game if both apply), manga/comics.
  2. Weapons must be checked in before the event.
  3. Costumes must abide by convention guidelines.
  4. Costumes must be made by the entree (at least 80%). Anything not made by entree will not be counted when judging takes place.
