Tech Policy PDF Print E-mail

When signing up for an event, please submit your tech request in writing when you fill out the event form. The following is our tech policy for the convention.

Laptops:
Anyone running an event with a laptop needs to check in with tech prior to the Portcon 2011 event.  In order to support your needs we ask for the following information in advance. We need to know the brand, model, and operating system of your laptop. (this is especially Critical for Apple Computers)  We need this information so we can insure a proper video and audio connection for the events. Failure to provide this information can (and probably will) cause delays or change in how your panel or event runs. Portcon tech staff will be onsite to help you setup and breakdown for your event.

Projectors:
Projectors will be setup according to who has requested and scheduled for one. Portcon Tech Staff will check on each room before and after each event in order to ensure needs are provided for.

Use of Microphones:
Panel Rooms will be limited to one Microphone per room due to the size of these rooms. Panels who have more than one host in a regular panel room, will be sharing a single Microphone.
If you want to be heard in a big room, like Main Events, remember the 3 inch rule. The microphones used at Portcon are designed to be held approximately 3 inches from ones mouth. Further than 3 inches and we won’t be able to hear you!

PA systems:
For those needing to plug into a PA system, please ask Tech first! Any audio source connected to a live PA system needs to be handled in a certain order. For anyone who will be connecting and disconnecting multiple times during an event, please remember to mute your audio when you connect or disconnect your equipment.  If a sound board is being used, you need to warn the sound tech so they can must the cannel you are connecting or disconnecting.   Following this rule will save our speakers, and everyone’s ears.
