Hello and welcome to the new Beat the Geeks Panel thread.
(Yes, I do know that this is very long and wordy. I just want people to understand what they're getting themselves into. :p)
Time Slot:
3-5pm
Sunday
Whale Back Room.Conflicting events include:
LARP Group Photo (tent 3-4)
Closing Ceremony (Tent 4-5)
(will be updated when spaces get filled in.)
For anyone not familliar with the show:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beat_the_GeeksI will be using the 2 season formats interchangeably to help with time.
Round One: (season 1 format)
3 Contestants go up against each other and answer 8 questions.
First 4 questions are worth 5 points each.
Second 5 questions are worth 10 points each.
Either there will be buzzers for each of you to push to determine the contestant that is to answer. Or I'll have a talking spoon of justice. Whoever claims the spoon first gets to answer.
Elimination of One Contestant.Round Two: (season 2 format)
The remaining two contestants choose which Geek to challenge.
If the contestants begin the round tied there will be a tie breaker question. Otherwise, the player with the most points starts.
Each Geek is worth 20 points except the Specialty Geek who's worth 40.
Contestant 1 picks a Geek to challenge.
4 questions are asked for a challenge, the Geek's questions are more challenging but in the same area.
If the Geek answers a question incorrectly, they lose the challenge.
If the contestant answers a question incorrectly, the Geek must answer it to end the challenge.
If the Geek fails, or all four questions are answered correctly, there is a Geek Off.
Geek Off:In the Geek-off, a question with a list of answers ("name as many... as you can") is first posed to the contestant, who gives as many answers as they can in 15 seconds. Then, a related but harder question is posed to the Geek. If the Geek fails to exceed the contestant's number of correct answers, the contestant wins.
Round 3: (The Geek-qualizer)
In the
Geek-qualizer, a list of titles is read to the contestant, who must decide whether each is related to Anime/Manga, Video Games, or Table Top.
The list continues until the contestant gives and incorrect answer, fails to give an answer fast enough (3 seconds), or exhausts the list. (10 in all and 10 points each.)
The lowest scored contestant goes first.
Elimination of Lowest scored Contestant.
Final Round:The remaining contestant is then offered the chance to challenge their choice geek (not guest) for their seat. (to go onto the “Next Show”.)
The contestant and Geek alternate questions, beginning with the contestant..
Each turn, the player chooses whether to answer a 1 point (easiest), 2 point (harder), or 3 point (hardest) question; the Geek may not choose a point value lower than the contestant's previous question.
If answered correctly, they earn the number of points chosen; otherwise there is no penalty.
The first player to reach 7 points wins
If the Contestant Wins, The Geek must leave their seat and the contestant will replace them as that geek for the next game.
SO! Now that we know how the game works... I need:
3 Guinea Pig Contestants. (you'll be in the first game.)
1 Video Game Geek
1 Anime Geek
1 Table Top Geek
1 Laptop Lackey (incase anyone has conflicting answers. And care to debate about them.)
(Red indicates what I need.)
All those who wish to apply PM me with:
Name: (real and SN)
Email:
Geek Position:
I will then email you a 10 question quiz for your Geek position. Answer the questions to the best of your ability. Please, no Googling for answers. At least not til after you send me your own answers. It won't help you. Especially when you get up and 100's of people are staring at you and laughing at your horrendously wrong answers. Okay maybe not 100's of people in the room but the 100's of people on youtube after I post the video's.

Seriously people though. No cheating! Studying is encouraged though. Cramming more so.
Okay I blame my snarky and long-windedness on too much Gilmore Girls. Shame on the people who bought me all the seasons for christmas!!
