 I been to couple conventions that had this, a designated area at the con that either has a banner behind people, or a prop and people get there pictures taken with it.

 Then after convention all photos can be put on the forum here, or facebook for everyone too see themselfs

I don't know where PortConMaine would have the space to put this.  A lot of people take cosplay photos outside.  Walk around the hotel and you can find some pretty decent backdrops.  (The bridge by the main lobby seems to be popular.)

I helped run one of these a few years ago... like 5 or 6 years...
We were in the small panel room at the Windham. There were 2 backdrops that we could shoot on and people could have their photo printed within the hour. Though I think we abandoned it because of the chaos it created. People had to wait out in the hallway and the line lasted a long time. So people would leave.
