Manga Cafe?
« on: September 05, 2011, 01:37:36 PM »
I couldn't figure out which category to put this in, so I apologize. I also couldn't find PortCon contact information on the subject, and am posting here instead.

I want to know if it's possible to make an Manga Cafe-type room. If one already exists that's great, and if not I'd like to see about making one. Could someone please inform me as to:
-Food/Drink safety and regulation policies (if allowed at all)
-How much a room for the weekend might cost
-If anyone would want in on helping me make this happen (as long as it's allowed)
-Who to contact in the future about such questions

I appreciate your help in advance!

Let's try to do this in order.

There is a Manga Room/Cosplay Repair Station. I'm not sure about food though.
A room at the Wyndham will run you $109 for the special con rate. but there are several hotels in the area that might be less. http://www.portconmaine.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=7&Itemid=12 for more info in the Wyndham.

You can contact amatyultare256 on the forums for more info about the Manga room and to see if maybe you can help.

You have the right spot to ask questions of a general nature. Specific questions like " Is anyone going to be running D+D 2ND edition this year?" would belong under Discussions in Gaming. If you post in the wrong place the Mods are nice and will move things for you. Just use logic and I'm sure things will be fine.

Yep, Neph pretty much got you covered, but as far as the Cafe part of the Manga Cafe, we likely won't be able to do food, at least not for sale or for the entire con.  We've had picnics in the past, but the hotel is pretty firm on the no food sales thing.  And we're fine with that, they like making money off us and our attendees on their little food booth in the lobby.  And that makes them like having us.  Which we like. ;)
