Back in the day...
« on: August 13, 2011, 09:37:08 PM »
Please tell me I'm not the only one that gets pleasure out of the classics.

And I don't mean Playstation or N64 you young ones. I mean OLD SCHOOL :P

Just got my baby today! Got four games too! (Q-Bert, Space Invaders, Pole Position, and Yars Revenge)

If you haven't seen/played on one of these yet, you owe yourself to do it at least once.

You should bring that to Portcon and put it in the game room. Watch people walking and look at it "What the hell is that?". Some people would play it but most would give it a wide birth.
Dear internet,
If I don't know you, we've never met face to face. I don't care what you think of me. Infact even if we've met face to face. Unless I want to date you I don't care what you think of me. So you can try to piss me off all you want just don't be offended when I just start laughing.

If there is desire for it to be there, I'll watch over it :P

Sweet. Isn't that one of the systems that caused the crash of '83? Do you have E.T.? Because if you did, all we would need is a Fairchild (I've always had a soft spot for the Fairchild...), and the video game room will be kickin'.

I'm not discounting the Super Nintendo you dweeb :P I was just talking about oooooooold school. And yes, I've seen your collection for the most part

Pretty sure the 2600 was what probably started it, even though it first came out in 1978. Then came the Intellevision...the Colecovision....*head starts spinning*

I'd buy ET, but I don't want my 2600 to die rejecting it X3 If it's still at the game store, I'll pick it up just for luls.

OMG yes the Channel F....those are pretty sweet. First ROM based cartridge games I believe

first home console was the Magnavox Odyssey (which I owned and is somewhere lost in the shed at my mom's house) followed by the Fairchild VES, RCA's Studio 2, and then the 2600 (read from "High Score: the illustrated history of Electronic Games" CC:2002)

The Atari came out first. It was the first console based off arcade games release. It was first release in Japan.

Hate to say it, but Richard is right.

Odyssey - August 1972
Atari VCS (2600) - October 1977

As a VG Room Staffer, I implore you to bring it.  I've never gotten the chance to play on one, and I'm sure I'm not alone.  Trust me, it'll get attention.

Wow, I haven't seen one of those in YEARS! I don't play old games but it's not because I don't like them, I just don't really play video games in general.
My favorite games back then were Space Invaders was number 1 and then Breakout.

Hehe I've wanted one for quite a while. My 'rents are so surprised that I'm having as much fun as I am with it!

They have a complete copy of Breakout at the game store near my house...but I don't have paddle controllers for it yet. Need to work on repairing one of the joysticks first. D:

EDIT: Just picked up 5 more games.

Arcade Pinball
Asteroids
Centipede
Pac-Man
Dragonfire
