Cosplay Repair booth
« on: June 26, 2011, 08:59:28 PM »
I was welding Sogyo-no-Kotowari from Bleach when it got knocked over in the shonen-ai panel and it broke :/
Someone suggested to grab some duct tape (It was a soi-fon cosplayer xD) so I grabbed some from the boffering tournament table. Then an idea popped into my head that next year PortCon should have a little Cosplay repair booth with things like;

A sewing machine (I know friends who would donate them)
Extra crafting materials (Felt, thread, ribbon, etc.)
Duct tape/fast-drying glue
etc.

If it's negotiable, maybe charge a small fee for the items so it's beneficial towards next year's convention?  ;)
2009: L (Death Note)
2010: Vizard Ichigo Kurosaki (Bleach)
2011: Jushiro Ukitake (Bleach)
2012: Goth Lolita Hatsune Miku (Vocaloid)

I crossplay...so what <_<   me or >:( me

This deffinitly sounds like a good idea to me, maybe adding a hot glue gun or two as well.  I know I would of used it for my Big Hammer Little Hammer after the head started to come loose from the handle.

This is a fantastic idea and has been talked about previously.  The trouble is we do not have the room to make a dedicated repair station.  Unless someone wanted to pony up the cash to get a table in the vendors room and charge a small fee for repairs.  Even that's not a perfect solution, as the vendors room isn't open all the time.

Remember that little table in the second tower by the entrance to the registration desk? The window behind it outlooks the poolhouse. That table is normally used for advertisements and pamphlets. We could move the ads to the registration desks and use THAT table instead for cosplay repair. Plus the advertisements will be noticed more since a bunch of people visit con registration desks  :-D win-win!

it would be, but then I have a couple things like Liability for lost/stolen/damaged sewing goods or even injury while using said items (course I am the person who goes you get hurt its your own fault), staffing said table since I really dont think the people allowing us to use the sewing machine and other equipment would like us leaving them alone. Also con congestion in that area could cause some issues.

Also when registration is busy they need every bit of room as does the info desk always.  We could devote some panel time to it perhaps but that's about the best I can think of for now. ;)

Steal a couple of parking spaces and put up a 10'x10' cosplay repair tent?  ^_^

(with, um, one of those old-fashioned manual foot pedal powered sewing machines, I guess xD)

Provided people don't mind hand sewing, that might work.  It's already a pain trying to get power out to the main events tent. :P

only room I could think of is Manga/Karaoke room but that belongs to JennFu so we would have to run that by her.

I like the idea of a tent! it could be focused on more minor fixes, and thus not use a sewing machine. things like sewing on buttons or wood glue.

Well the only problem i have with it, and i have to talk to Julie and some other people about this, is that there are certain times where my room is FULL! but...let me discuss it with peoples and we might be able to come with a solution.

maybe even if it is saturday morning before and during craftsmanship judging or in the cosplay green room since we usually have an hour before the contest from when green room starts (Arisia does this)
