One of the largest issues brought up in the feedback panel of 2010 was the occurrence of hall congestion due to free hug signs and the like. As a community, PortCon has overcome a lot of its issues together: working to tone down the parties in hotel rooms, working to keep the techno dance party drug free, and working to make a small space work for a convention busting at its seams. As a community, we will continue to grow and adapt to what we have to work with: including the hallways.
In 2011, people sporting free anything signs will be asked to relocate outside of the convention hallways and indoor space. This isn't because the signs are inappropriate or because people dislike free hugs, handshakes, etc; it's simply due to lack of hallway space to accommodate the slow down caused by the activity. The hotel doesn't sport large enough hallways to allow for constant solicitation backups, especially when "gauntlet hallways" start forming as in 2010. Ahh the gauntlet of 2010 on the way to the video game room... We remember you well.
To this end, please help us keep the convention fun and entertaining for all by keeping hallways clear and accessible to all attendees and staffers. Keep the free hugs outside in 2011. Thank you!
