Japan's crisis

Hey, I am surprised i didn't see anything on this on the forums yet...I have to say i was shocked when i woke up yesterday to the news...slightly surprised i didn't find out about it sooner during my overnight shift. All of yesterday was filled with worry for all of my friends and their family's over in Japan. And it isn't fully over yet, what with the possibility of a nuclear meltdown. All of my thoughts and prayers are on the small country that has pretty much been a part of me for a long time. Even though i have never been there, even though i would love to visit, it has never the less been a big part of my life since i guess Grade School. I have heard from many of my friends that they and their family's are safe. But this crisis...feels close to home.

I ended up finding out about this yesterday as well when I got home from work.

My mom was like "Oh, did you hear about the earthquake in Japan?" I ended up rushing to the interwebs and started to freak out.

Now that I'm awake, I'm trying to keep up with all the recent updates.

I was rather worried for Ranma, where as he lives over there. Turns out he is fine. (lives quite a distance from the center of all the worst of it)

Still. I am praying for all those lost, and all those who are still caught in all the damage.

Yea, I had heard about it yesterday morning also, and then looked up more information about it after my hubby brought it up to me when he found out about it at work. It didn't completely hit me how bad it was until I saw a video with the wave rolling over the farms with debris...
I had thought about posting something here, but I wasn't sure if I'd be allowed to put something up like that. I don't really know what else to say.

I was a bit panicked when I heard about it. I hit the net and checked on some of my friends. Heard back from most of them, and hopefully the rest are just busy. I had one friend that was actually planning on flying into Sendai yesterday, but thankfully the quake hit before she got on the plane. I can't even imagine how she and the others must be feeling right now. It must be terrifying.

I got the news on FB from a few of my friends in the Kanagawa Prefecture who are still living there.

They're all okay, thank god. I've seen videos of wine bottles falling off the shelves in the convenience store. It's never been that bad when I used to live there.

My mother knows a few elderly ladies whom she used to work with, and we haven't heard from them yet. I hope and pray they are okay as well.

Seems that they have nuclear worries now caused by the earthquake. There was a sizable explosion at a nuclear power plant. Watching the raw video footage, I could tell that it was a miracle that no one was killed at the plant. They had to evacuate a large amount of people from the area though, and a few have tested positive for radiation exposure. This is a very big fear in Japan (thanks to us, sadly) and it only adds to the woes which that Nation is currently suffering.

I shall be saying another prayer for all those over there before I go to bed now.

I found out about the earthquake when my cousins Yuuki and Haruko called that morning. They live in Saga-ken, so they're quite far from the epicenter. But I have some friends who were in Tokyo, but they've left the city and gone back home to Okinawa.

Thoughts and prayers to anyone else who has family or friends in Japan.

I think that Portcon should have a donation box or some thing like that to help raise money for the Red Cross of Japan.

I haven't actually verified anything in that article so do please do your research before donating to make sure your money is going where you want it to.

I still think that it would be cool if there was a donation box or can at the registration desk, so anime fans could give back to the country that without there would be no Portcon or anime. As a convention that celebrates the awesomeness of Japan shouldn't we owe it to japan to help them get back on their feet after a tragic event.

Tomoko-san and Mickey-san are okay, and my mom started receiving email from Cho-san.

This makes me so happy. <3
I just wish I could fly back there and help everyone out.

I donated $10 via the Red Cross. I know it isn't much, but every little bit counts!

I agree there should be something like a donation box for Portcon. KeyBlade said it perfectly that without Japan we wouldn't have PortCon or anime.
