PortConMaine would like to highlight the following staff positions available and open for the 2011 convention season. If you are interested, please fill out our online application. Staff for PortCon receive: free admittance to the event, free admittance to staff related functions during the year, a staff t-shirt, staff access to the staff room during the convention, snacks and food during the convention, and rooming (if needed) during the convention. PortConMaine is proud to have a family of staff volunteers who work together to bring the best convention they can to the community at large. It's a lot of work, it's a lot of fun, and getting involved is one way to make sure PortConMaine continues to be the best celebration of geek culture that it can be.
Staff Room Manager
The staff room manager needs to be able to drive: this is the person who will be in charge of getting food and supplies for staff during the weekend. PortConMaine seeks an organized, efficient, detail-oriented, and budget-conscientious person who is willing to go out and make sure our staff remains fed and happy during the weekend. A license is required as well as the ability to deal with others and follow a schedule. A suitable candidate is someone who is a people person. Staff frequently visit the room to cool down and relax- a staff room manager candidate should be able to either entertain or talk, as needed. This would be the position for you if you don't mind working specific shifts (from lunch to dinner) during staff room hours. This means missing out on specific events during the day, or working with the staff room monitor to create a schedule that allows both staff members to enjoy the events they wish to see. The staff room manager is in charge of the room, with another staffer underneath them to help with scheduling. Both staffers are responsible for keeping the room clean, secure, and available during open hours.
Video Room Manager
PortConMaine seeks a detail oriented video fan to manage and schedule the video room schedule. A suitable candidate is someone who can follow a schedule, has interests in anime, fantasy, and science fiction entertainment, and stays up to date on the latest shows and trends in the industry. The video room manager is in charge of emailing and contacting companies to make sure we have rights to show the videos we show. During the convention, the video room manager is in charge of making sure the schedule is followed and that DVDs get changed on time and by staff.
Publicity Liaison
PortConMaine seeks a willing volunteer to contact, promote, create signs for, and generally spread the word about PortConMaine. A suitable candidate is someone with communication skills, writing skills, and self-direction. We need someone who can help make press releases, not just take press releases and email them out. The liaison is responsible for contacting and promoting before the convention- so during the convention this position is usually someone who "hops" on another staff (such as video game room, gaming, or registration). This is the perfect position for someone who wants to get more involved before the convention to help make the event a success weekend of.
