Not that I like or dislike you it's just I know people you tend to creep out. I also know a few people who are indifferent towards you. As long as you don't cause any problems they don't really put any thought towards you. I've seen you around since 2005 and it seems you have calmed down abit and it seems you aren't trying to be over the top like you first seemed, to me at least. Seems like you are being more humble and down to earth now. The only thing I hate hearing is the "There would be no Portcon without Cat Dancer". It feels like a slap in the face for all we plan and do for people and then to hear someone saying that while walking around or coming out of a panel. So to me the Cat Dancer persona I can deal with to a point but the fan club of Cat Dancer can get under my skin. I don't know if they see what they are saying as an insult or not but it can be hurtful to the staff that hear it. We do everything we can to make it as awesome as we can but then to hear that, it's fairly disheartening. I know you personally aren't trying to get people to think that but to hear that will get me mad at you and not wanna be near you. It's not a personal thing it just annoys me that people are making Cat Dancer out to be bigger than the con.

i can see how you can take it as an insult. while i say that (for me) the con can't be complete without catdancer i don't mean that the con would suck without him. i love portcon for portcon, but i also love what portcon brings - it brings many people back year after year. The con wouldn't be the same without it's crazy security staff like my brother sol, or neph, or weird - or seeing archimer in the AA every year <3 . It's certain people who seem to complete the ...family like atmosphere at portcon. I've been coming for 7 years and to see some of the same people year after year and to be able to get a hug from them or have them recognize me that one time of year really really makes me happy. I think that feeling of the portcon family is what i mean by how catdancer completes the con for me because he's apart of that family.

Wow, I've heard "it wouldn't be the same without you" from several people, but it had never occurred to me how that would sound like to the staff who make the convention possible.

In my opinion, Catdancer is Catdancer. He is who he is. I'm completely indifferent. However, the suggestions that have already been given, such as those regarding space and the like, I can agree with.

Man, those halls can get crowded quick.

Hmm, well speaking for myself, I consider an affectionate kiss on a cheek or forehead entirely harmless (provided that it isn't unwanted, of course!) -- otherwise I wouldn't do it.

On the other hand, I always obey all Portcon rules and requests, so if the con chair or security asks me to stop, I will -- whether or not I personally agree with their reasons!

That's fine.  But, I think this is along the same lines as glomping or unwanted hugs.  It's something the recipient should be ok with first, before ye do it.

Yup, Catdancer is pretty effing creepy, but strangely alluring.  ;)  Also in my experience, and remember I've been with PortCon since the beginning, mostly harmless.  He's always been pretty conscientious of others.

The only thing that breaks my heart a little bit when I watch him, is that he knew how to use those Isis wings a bit better.  :P  But on the whole, I enjoy who he is.  He's confident in his persona, and believe it or not he's not socially awkward to talk with.  The only awkwardness I see is in the folks watching him and not knowing how to deal with him.  And that amuses me greatly.  :Ragabash:

I think the term people are looking for about cat dance and his relation to PortCon is fixture. He's there every year so you get used to seeing him. You'd notice if he decided not to dance for a year. This year some of the staff who have become fixtures we not attending. we noticed the loss but the con still went very well.

I have to say I'm a fan of cat dancer. Most people don't get him at first some probably never will and that's ok. I like having him around. he's a roving pocket of joy. Personally he's helped my temperament more than once. Just being around happy people has benefits. I also get a good chuckle out of the people who just don't get cat dancer. They spend so much effort trying to figure out the why instead of enjoying the dance itself.

I guess my point can be boiled down to we don't NEED cat dancer but I like having him around.

I feel I should explain why some people find Cat creepy. He's a grown man walking around in a some what skin tight black outfit and doing strange dances. I know for a fact I have seen creeper at cons. Like the guy cosplaying Princess Peach, more weird less creepy but it's one of those things that catches you off guard and makes you look again. I'm just glad we will never see Man Faye or Sailor Bubba at Portcon. Not saying Cat is just as bad as those two, in fact he's fairly normal compared to them. Another thing is I know some people are uncomfortable being near you. Like I said earlier seeing as you have mellowed  abit from years past, your not as creepy now. Not sure if you realize it but there are people who where creeped out from years past about you just walking up and hugging them or something. It's clear from this year you have stopped doing that and only hugging people who want to be hug. I also know a few people that think Neph is creepy.
Dear internet,
If I don't know you, we've never met face to face. I don't care what you think of me. Infact even if we've met face to face. Unless I want to date you I don't care what you think of me. So you can try to piss me off all you want just don't be offended when I just start laughing.

Well. I was a bit cheeped out, but now that I have read into it a bit more, I'm a little more open about it. I heard a reallyy bad story about you, from this one woman there, so I just stayed my distance.

I'd encourage her to tell the staff about it (or someone else who is willing to be an intermediary), who could then talk to me (without naming names, of course).

I can make mistakes... and I can certainly understand that someone who had a bad experience wouldn't necessarily want to talk to me about it directly... but if I never hear about it when I did something wrong, I may not know that I need to do something differently.

I respect you for your courage but some of the things you have done in past years was a little creepy, but I didn't see anything creepy this year so I deem you a part of the PortCon experience.

Okay I can see how people can be caught off guard rounding the corner of the con and seeing Cat Dancer especially for those first time con goers. I'm glad that Cat Dancer comes every year to the con, if he didnt show up it would be like not having cosplayers or not having the Mick as dj, there just wouldnt be the same con vibe.
I am glad to have met him (what is it now four or five years ago?) and have become (I hope) friends outside con.  Cat Dancer not only puts a smile on many con goers faces but also has made me more comfortable with who I am in a way.

I'm cool with ye doin' what ye do, but when ye start puttin' yer lips on underage girls...I kinda have a problem with that.

I agree. Even if you think it's alright, I still don't like seeing it... But as long as you keep your hands to yourself, that's okay. I've always been slightly creeped out, but not bothered... Until I saw the kiss, then I got really creeped out.

But Portcon is a place where, as long as you don't harm others, it's okay to act a bit wacky... Just not with underage girls.

cat dancer is one of a kind but in a weird sence you could aslo see what he means in the way of how you can generaly be your self at these cons and not have to worry about what others think about you its the whole fun of being at these events is you can dress up relax and be your selves with out judgements.
