Maybe someone should run a 1/2hour group hug panel... Maybe have someone research GLOMP and Free Hugs and do a whole panel on it for the last 1/2 hour... And explain why it's been out grown?

I don't mind the free hugs as long as they don't HOUND you.
Like I said in a different thread, the guy with the "Free Brofists! I don't like hugs." CRACKED me up.

I was there for a bit trying to calm them down... I also unfortunately gave them the idea of the "mass hugs" when I suggested they hug eachother... They just have a lot a love to give, I love the idea of a hugging/glomp panel.
I know they're harmless, they just need to not harass people who walk by...

I BROFISTED THAT DUDE. (After I LOLd hard...) And I hate the "Free Whatever" garbage and do not participate in it. However, I liked his twist on it. While signs may be considered "harmless" by some, and "Freedom of speech" by others, they COULD actually be ILLEGAL when it comes to state laws. Being from Pennsylvania, I am not familiar with Maine law, however, depending on the law, these kinds of signs could be considered "solicitation" and actually be illegal. This is why signs are banned at Anime Boston. Massachusetts state law has very strict definitions of "solicitation." Someone may want to look into this. While banning OMG HUG ME signs may cause people to whine about freedom of speech, you cannot deny what the law says. And if it winds up being illegal, that is certainly grounds for not allowing these items at Portcon. And no one should argue that.

I think Migoto-chan did the best with her sign. She got like 19 tacos. She didn't harass anyone and just showed people the sign.

She only started getting the tacos after she changed her sign away from "hugs for tacos" to "free hugs tacos optional". She also got a bottle of ramune and a package of taco seasoning too.

I loved the con. My only wish, if its possible, would be to have more comfortable chairs for the tent. Even regular fold up metal chairs would be an improvement. Those had to be the most uncomfortable seats I have ever sat in and their style showed a lot of butt crackage for people who forgot belts. Most unpleasant. Anything that would give more back support for those longer main events. Or I may just pick a cosplay that allows me to have a bum and back cushion.

Haha! I actually love the history of the whole 'Free Hugs' concept (the actual campaign and whatnot), so if your serious I could help to that effect. It's actually a very nice, wonderful concept about togetherness and connection... It's just irritating, an mass. I like it, and I still find it annoying when I'm just trying to get from point A to point B and I get signs all up in my grill. And some people wouldn't take 'no' for an answer, which was really bad. If I don't want a hug, I shouldn't have to have one. This was only two people, but each time it REALLY bothered me. As for the actual con, it was very fun! I loved a lot of the 18+ events (it was my first year being over 18 and I can't believe how fun these are), and some of the others. My only feedback is a lot of stuff got canceled. I mean A LOT. Do we know why? I think of 60% of the panels I planned on attending didn't happen once I got there. That was sort of depressing, especially some that I looked forward to all weekend. >m<
