Shadowrun, do you speak it?
« on: October 18, 2009, 05:03:10 PM »
Hey I was wondering what everyone feels about the awesomest game to come out of Catalyst games since BattleTech (incedently also something I'm curious about) and I want to see if anyone here actually plays the game. I'm currently running an excessively big group and I didn't see if there was a runner group at PortCon last year (i was a little too dazed to comprehend much anyway). Feedback is always nice!  :-D

There was a game at the con two years ago but I didn't notice one in '09.

I haven't played the updated version but back in the day many hours of fun.  The od system was a great example of a game that had an awesome setting so you could ignore the god awful mechanics.  That was pretty much what FASA (the old game company that made it) did for all their games.  I suspect they hired non-gamers, doped them up on LSD and IV of espresso then had them design the rules.  Terrible rules but amazing settings.

Yeah, this time they added some PCP and rohypnol to the IV, and gave them a better system to work with. Catalyst makes some decent games though, Cthulhutech is my new obsession.

Sorry for my ridiculously late reply on this, obviously I need to check the forums more often, but I just got to read Cthulhutech and enjoyed it very much.  Cool setting.  I was not blown away by the system but it does the job.  I am interested in porting it to another system like ORE or Wushu but the setting is sweet.  A really nice revamp of Cthulhu.

YAY! Someone else feels the same way I do about CT! I agree about the system, its a wee bit too much like they didn't want to use the shadowrun system and just tried too hard to make it interesting. If you do end up porting it I would love to see the result!

I'll be there too if our schedules don't conflict.  I always run a number of games at Portcon but maybe we can try and coordinate the gaming schedule this year.  I need to start thinking about what I am going to run on the theme of Old School.

Well, It looks like I'll be running precon characters unless yall can create some on a 400 BP system quickly enough. I do hope to see as many of you as I can @ the table, and I'll keep this thread alive at least until I find out which day I'm going.
