Good finds.
« on: September 20, 2009, 08:27:00 PM »
So I find that around Sanford, Pawn shops/ Bullmoose are Graveyards for great games. Over the past few weeks I've gone back there specifically to find copies of:

Ico (This was actually last year, but I got a sealed copy for 11 dollars, so thats nuff said.)
Persona 3 FES,
Persona 4.

I found a sealed copy of Zone of the Enders 1 today.

Seriously.

Discuss: Great games you find at local places, when least expecting it.

I found a used copy of Xenogears (for the PlayStation) in an Electronics Boutique (before it became EB Games) in the Arsenal Mall in Watertown, MA. It was about $26.00 or so, but it was extremely ecstatic. I played the game before and it was amazing and I was never able to find it anywhere else. Since it's been basically discontinued, there are a few limited amount of copies out there and I am pretty lucky to have one for myself. And the discs are in great condition, too.

I found Legend of Legaia (again, for the same PlayStation) in the same said store, but at the Cambridge Galleria in Cambridge, MA. Another great find.

And last but not least, I found my beloved Eternal Sonata (for the Xbox 360) in the GameStop in the South Portland Mall. I believe Jenn/CJ Gren can tell you the glee and excited stupidity on my face and how I was reduced to a five year old little girl in a matter of seconds when I saw the game. 'Nough said.

As far as great games in unlikely spots, I found Test Drive Unlimited right outside with all the smokers @ PortCon. Someone was selling a bunch of stuff that I guess had not been sold yet. Got a good deal on it too.

These were my best finds to date:

At Gamestop, I found a mint condition/unopened copy of the limited edition 20th anniversary Final Fantasy I for the PSP. Still in the shrinkwrap, only 9.00$

At this old gamestore, a copy of Paper Mario for the N64 for 15.00. Not bad considering how hard it is to find around where I live (or any N64 game for that matter).

Still looking for a minted copy of Nocturne though.

I found an Ocarina of Time gold cartridge at Game Stop a long time ago. It was used, no box or anything, but it was still cool.

It's interesting to see the differences between the gold cartridge and the regular release. The regular one isn't as notoriously glitchy, for one. Other changes confused me-- In the end of the game, when you're near defeating Ganondorf, he coughs up some green stuff. In the gold cartridge, it's red. This might have had something to do with the "E" ESRB rating that the game got?

Anyway, it was a fun little find for me!

Speaking of Gamestop, I found a copy of Sonic Heros at the Waterville one for only $5. Not a bad deal for a fun game...

I remember back when I got my PSP. I was buying it for Dissidia, but it wasn't coming out for another 6 months or so, so I wanted to buy a game to tide me over. Now I'm not typically in the loop for video games unless they're HUGE releases like Dissidia or Final Fantasy XIII or Kingdom Hearts, etc. I was browsing the shelves and saw a game that, if I was drinking something at the time, would have made me spittake all over the discount PSP games. Star Ocean: Second Evolution. Now I know that the name of the game as I remember it was Star Ocean: Second Story. But as that was for the PSX, I was like 'meh'. But yeah. After I saw that, I quit looking and purchased that on the spot.

It's why being out of the loop is a good thing. You get less stressed from anticipation, yet pleasantly surprised when you see something amazing that you can actually afford.
