Spinning wheel If you cant decide on a song, you spin the wheel and if you do a good job you get a punch on a card...10 gives you a prize.
American karaoke only 2 sessions this year
japanese karaoke of course
cosplay karaoke if you come in and sing a song from teh series you are cosplaying from you get a punch in the card as well


Any other ideas? These are what i have come up with...I'll hammer them out, and try and be more organized this year. Am getting a new computer so that should fix some of the problems, plus an air card...cuz i get an awesome deal through my employee discount.

Seriously, Record your own was a great idea.  Kinda wish we had enough interest to go through with it.  Barely anyone showed up...

The concept was that you pay five bucks for a 15 minute time slot to record your own karaoke track.  This way you get a few tries at it, and in the end we make a master CD with all the tracks and give them out to all participants.  With only 3 people trying it, idea failed

I think when people show up we assign them a time slot and let them go back to wandering the con.  If they dont show up we give it to the next person to show up in line, you know? 

As for Say What? Karaoke, Im personally curious as to what kind of ideas people have to make it more popular/competable. (Totally not a word, but you know)

Needs to be changed *somehow.* If you do do Say What again, maybe limit the first round to TV Sizes to limit the time more effectively than picking part of a song to do, I dunno. You said something about a Portcon Idol type thing but I don't watch American Idol so I don't have the first clue what that would entail.

I'm torn between saying "must sign up before con" or "Keep going during con..." Either way you should somehow make sure you have enough people to make it worth it.

Sounds like a fun way to add to the card thing instead of just being for hard songs.

i always love the karaoke, but i think a problem with the record your own was the fact that noone really knew what songs were available. i brought my own cd, but i think a lot of people werent sure what they could do. also i think the price might have been a little steep for some people. my mom didnt think i should do it for 5 bucks, however i am glad i did. its the best recording of me i've ever had. also i was a bit concerned because i was in there for like 10 minutes with the 3 people who came with me and wernt intesested. they didnt know the song, and only one of them does any singing, so i was trying to get out for their sake. ( they were new and kinda nervous.) still i always love karaoke!

i talked to you guys earlyer at the con about helping out with the music if you still need it. i am totaly willing to help. i can get just about anything.

The origional Idea about the Record your own karaoke track, was i was gonna bring a Printer, and then actually print out CD labels. Unfortunately my printer hates me, and i ran into a lot of financial difficulty. I can lower it a bit for next year. The price was to cover the CD, and the cover and such. Kind of like when you get pictures at a photo booth type deal.  Thank you very much for teh feedback. I will take a lot of it into consideration as i fgure out what to do.

By the way...I can use your help with getting music, Im just dealing with a lot of other stuff right now. I will get in touch with you after i move to Maine...thats pretty much all that is on my mind at the moment ^^

I thought maybe if you wrote/printed out a list of songs you already have available it would be easier for people to pass around and look at and then they could just tell you what they want unless they have their own cd or something... maybe? xD

Yeah, Thats another thing i am going to do for 2010. The list of songs. I'll be honest, i was pretty unorganized this year. So i am working on getting that fixed for next year

Just to advocate a little, the lack of song lists would have been less of a problem if the internet and the computer had worked the way they were expected to. That said, it'd still be good to have the lists at least as backup.

Thank you...I think we were expecting the net to be like it was at the eastland...lesson learned...never ever expect things to go smoothly ^^
