Okay. I know this is a bit overdone, but I have had some seriously bad experiences in this area.

I do not want to get mugged. Again.

I donno, but I'm sure there are better areas than anywhere around the eastland.

any ideas for locations?

You know, one of the state parks in Cape Elizabeth would be nifty!  The downside is that they cost money to get in -- Two Lights is $3 per person, Ferry Beach is $4, Crescent Beach is $4.50.  The upside is no obnoxious people wandering by like we'd get in Portland itself... and a much nicer environment :)

Here are links to descriptions of the parks:

Two Lights http://www.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/doc/parksearch/search_name.pl?state_park=28

Ferry Beach http://www.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/doc/parksearch/search_name.pl?state_park=8

Crescent Beach http://www.maine.gov/cgi-bin/online/doc/parksearch/search_name.pl?state_park=4

The photos show off the beaches but all the parks also have nice grassy areas.

Ferry Beach is probably the nicest I think.

P.S. Should this topic be moved to "Other Gatherings"?

Excellent idea Cat. I've arranged for the move for the actual planning stages of the picnic. Have fun folks, hope it doesn't rain on you.

Both Two Lights and Ferry Beach have a group picnic shelter which might be useful if a bit of rain passes through; Crescent Beach has picnic tables but no shelter.

Two Lights is cheaper ($3) than Ferry Beach ($4) while Ferry Beach is larger.  Because it's larger at Ferry Beach it might be easier to find a space that's a little more private if that's something you want, while on the other hand it's large enough that we'd need some way of telling people where in the park to find the picnic... Two Lights is smaller so people will be able to find the picnic without any special directions.

Ok so we have it narrowed down ^.^ shall we do the cheaper one? and also do you think I should call and ask ahead if a cosplay picnic would be ok?  Or should we just go for it.
