The Berserk anime could possibly be old school, as it is mid-90s, and the earlier manga too, but as it is still coming out, it's iffy.
that and the copious amount of blood and violence in the series

DBZ?

As much as I'd hate to admit it, according to the dates I've found, DBZ would be considered old school.

just look at how influential it's been!  so many of the hot new shonen series follow a similar formula to DBZ (both the good and bad).

I personally believe that everyone has their own definition of old-school.

If it feels like it's old school to you...all the power to you!

Then again...I'm weird like that >>

Anything two generations back.

So I'd call 16-bit, IE: Snes, Sega Genesis, Etc Oldschool. Anything prior to the norm. Our norm right now is 3d Gaming, so 'old-school' 2d gaming should count.
Gettin' too old for this.

Ok...This needs to be debated...I feel anything that is hand drawn is considered old school. however i could be wrong. Those that have been watching anime longer then i have i.e. 95...what do you guys consider old school?

Quote from: jenfuu
again...i always defined it as anything that was hand drawn was old school. I.e. for clamp...i consider MRK the last Old school anime that they created. However again, it is subjective because of time and such.

Ok, so as i said is it anything hand drawn that is old school? or anything before 95? I feel as if MKR is Old School, but it came out in 98 i believe.

No offense meant, but I think we heard you the first time.   ;)

Something can have parts which are old school while still having a new part.  Some examples:
Raiders of the Lost Ark = old school, Crystal Skull = new
Classic Transformers = old school, Michael Bay version = new
Early episodes of The Simpsons = old school, current stuff = new
