Well I was talking about the AMV's with Todd a bit and about how the ordering could have gone and he suggested some things and so did I when were talking. One thing that was brought up by him though was when I told him it'd probably be best to stick all the same entries in a category together he stated that nobody really wants to watch 4-8 drama videos in a row and other such examples. So maybe there can be an easier way and such to go about things, like the first one from each category and then repeat.

That's pretty close to how it was this year, though. To be honest I'm not 100% sure if the ones I voted for were the ones I thought I was voting for, I just couldn't remember for the life of me what titles matched what videos. I guess I'd actually like sitting through eight drama videos more than not being able to remember what category a video I watched was in, let alone the name of it. As it was there was one video listed in two categories and the winning drama was more funny than dramatic. I feel it also hurt the chances of the videos shown earlier as the ones shown last are the ones that are going to be the freshest in the voters minds. I might be mistaken, but I think all of the winners were pretty far down in their categories. Also the filler videos, while excellent, didn't exactly help my memories of the other videos, nor did they make some of the other videos look very good by comparison.

I do like the idea of a recap at the end, that could actually fix a lot of problems if five minutes were set aside at the end to play clips of all of the videos, in their proper category order.

I don't like comparing cons to other cons, and I don't want to give the impression that I think PortCon should emulate others cons - I think it has its own, awesome aesthetic, and PortCon should do things the PortCon way.

That being said, Otakon screens the AMVs for the contest by running through all the genres completely one at a time. I think they try to order the videos in such a way that there is enough difference between them - for instance, if there are two drama entries that use Death Note, they will have one at the beginning of the drama entries, and one at the end, and also some videos just have more "energy" than others, so they try to order them so the high energy videos are well distributed. I have never had a problem with watching the genres in clusters, and I think it's really the best way to do it. By the time the entire contest is over, it's a bit difficult to remember which video is which, but if it's just 5-6 entries in a given category, that makes me significantly easier.

Also, the ballots for the contest usually include the video source and song information. So if you don't remember the video name, you might remember it based on the song, or anime source(s).

Between the two of these, I think it will cause a lot less confusion and encourage voting. My friend didn't vote, because he couldn't be sure he was voting for the videos he wanted.

That being said, I greatly enjoyed the contest, and I think it was very well done. I just want to make sure it's even better next year!

Congrats to all the winners!

...is it strange that I laughed more at the Drama entry than the Comedy one?

The song "Deteriorata" is a 'dark comedy', so you get relatively little laughter. It's more of a 'knowing smile' kind of song.  :P

I'll always be a sucker for romance AMVs.

Then again... I'm the definition of FEMALE. xD

Next year I neeeeed to be at the awards. I also could just sit and watch AMVs all day and never get bored. :P

Stupid father's day. I wanted to see all the winner's vids. D: Besides mine - which doesn't count. ><
